The 2010 Britton Fund Ride

The Britton Fund Ride is a volunteer program of The Britton Fund, Inc. As a cyclist in the event, I will join others to generate awareness of its mission and objectives, attract volunteers to The Britton Fund's programs and activities, and be an advocate for increased research and education in tree care.

The fundraising minimum for each rider is $850 but my personal goal is $2,000. Why such a big goal? Because if each of my 240 Facebook friends dropped a ten-spot towards the cause, I could easily reach 2K! No contribution is too small.

The one-day ride will be held the day before the start of the 76th Annual Conference of the Western Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (CA, AZ, NV, HI).

John received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland in 1965. He went on to receive a Masters at UC Berkeley in 1967. John founded the Britton Tree Service in St. Helena, CA in 1976. He became a nationally respected arborist who was involved with his community and profession. Chairman, WC ISA Certification Committee (1987-1991); President, Western Chapter ISA (1994); Director, National Arborist Association (1998-2000). John passed away on September 2, 2001 of pancreatic cancer. Upon his death, the Western Chapter ISA set up a fund to honor his memory. This fund has grown into what is today known as "the Britton Fund."
